Steel Cased/Bimetal Ammuntion Bad?

We’ve all heard it at one point or another, steel cased or bimetal projectile ammunition is bad for our firearms. Generally, the price of bulk quantities of ammunition has discouraged any real testing in this area. Fortunately, Lucky Gunner took on the challenge of addressing this long-lived myth earlier this year. In their testing, they found that bimetal bullets do increase barrel wear, but that does not tell the whole story. Because Lucky Gunner effectively did magazine dumps to expend the bulk quantities of ammunition, it is hard to tell how a barrel would react under normal shooting conditions. It seems almost certain that barrel life would be extended by a slower schedule of fire.

Still, Lucky Gunner’s findings are interesting and have forced me to give some thought to my use of bimetal projectiles.
