This list started out as a thread on AR15.com and has since been archived there. In order to keep it alive and up to date, I am posting it here. Readers should note that this is a living list that will need to be updated as new officers are appointed or elected.

Those of you who have NFA experience in Ohio please post here to share your experiences. Others can feel free to reach out to their CLEOs to ask if they would be willing to sign. Thanks for your help!

  1. I literally just got off the phone with the Ohio Attorney General’s “help center” at 1-800-282-0515 and according to the very confused individual I spoke to Attorney General DeWine WILL NOT sign off on a Form 4. It was very, very clear to me that he did not know what I was speaking of because he kept referring me to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for information on various permits. Furthermore, the young man who I spoke to took it upon himself to proclaim that Attorney Genral DeWine will not sign off, rather than citing an actual policy. I asked by whom the policy was set and he said by himself.

    • Wow what a mess. I would recommend sending a typed letter to the AG’s office explaining the situation and asking for a clarification.

I would not get my hopes up for a positive response. Mike DeWine carries a relatively low grade with both the NRA and BFA. It seems even some conservative CLEO have taken an arbitrary stance on this matter. If you hear anything else from them, please post another comment and I will add DeWine to the NO list.

These sorts of situations are why ATF 41P is so dangerous. Allowing CLEO to take a broad stance on these sorts of issues effectively bans NFA items for law-abiding citizens.

      • I finally got official, though not written, conformation that Attorney General Mike DeWine will NOT sign off on a Form 4 for any reason. Case closed. Additionally, I got confirmation that Franklin County prosecutor Ron O’Brien likewise will NOT sign a Form 4. It’s sad that ignorance and /or politics, not a real concern for public safety, is driving the decisions at least in Columbus.
